The Design and Technology Academy (DaTA) at Madison brings math, science and technology to life through hands-on, interdisciplinary projects. Students take academic and career technical classes in grades 9-12. The academy uses Project Lead the Way curriculum to help students develop foundation skills in engineering and design principals that prepare them for college. DaTA is a designated
Academy of Engineering by the National Academy Foundation and was recently selected as a
California Partnership Academy.
In DaTA, students take a series of engineering and design classes, work in teams on interdisciplinary projects, and participate in a variety of academy activities. They are exposed to professional and technical careers in engineering, design and technology through college field trips, job shadows and internships. As juniors, students have a mentor from industry who advises them on projects, encourages their achievement in school, and discusses postsecondary and career plans.
